In recent times there has been a matter of debate around the globe whether skimmed milk is healthier than Whole milk? According to the recent studies and statistics there has been a mix response among the intellectuals and the people around the Globe.
Well there is no question mark on the contribution of milk in the prosperity of humans from many centuries, but with time there are questions which are raised on the forms of milk.
Before we should come to the conclusion it should be clear to our understanding about the two terms skimmed milk and whole milk.
Whole Milk: Whole milk or milk is a pale liquid containing biological substance mostly like lactose, calcium, vitamins and minerals which are produced by mammals (who give birth to young ones).Milk is a primary source of nutrition basically for young ones which protects them from infection and diseases. Milk contains antibodies which increases the immune of the young one. With time milk became the part of healthy diet for humans. Whole milk is the pure form of milk which is delivered door to door.
Skimmed Milk: When cream (milk fat) is removed from whole milk the remain becomes skimmed milk. it is basically made in the milk factories through the process of pasteurization. To understand these two terms in a deeper way we should have a look on the properties of both the terms.
Whole Milk: Whole milk contains all the basic elements of milk. It has a content of 3.5 – 4 % fat in a cup of milk i.e. 250 ml of milk. It is enriched with 5% of vitamins, Milk is also rich in minerals, Calcium which is an essential element found in milk contains 30% of the total while both contains zinc. As Whole milk contains a larger amount of fat it is beneficial for growth of body, muscle, bones and ligaments.
Skimmed Milk: As mentioned earlier it contains less quantity of fat or 0.1 % fat. It is enriched with protein content of 8.5 g whereas whole milk contains 8g protein and has fewer calories (71 cal) in comparison with whole milk (160 cal) in a cup of milk. Skimmed milk is used for babies of growing age as it results in intake of more food like vegetables, fruits, vitamins and minerals.
As we understood the two terms in a better way, we should now take a look over the advantage and disadvantage of one over the other.
Advantage and Disadvantage: Whole milk has a lower risk of developing cardiac arrest than low fat drinkers, there is no evidence supporting that low fat milk is better for those who are planning to lose some weight while those who want to gain weight consuming whole milk. The whole milk drinkers choose foods which are less in micro nutrients which resulted in their less healthy diet. While in terms of obesity Skimmed milk is beneficial. Skimmed milk is recommended for growing age people because it increases the intake of other source of food which are denser in micro nutrients. Skimmed milk increases the risk of budding localized or low-grade prostate cancer tumors while whole milk has lesser risk.
What intellectuals say?
According to the study of 2007 in the University of Hawaii Skimmed milk develops the risk of prostate cancer.
Conclusion: It has been clear that it depends on the individual to decide his/her intake. Both have a narrow margin in their difference. Skimmed milk is preferred at growing age while Whole milk if preferred for all age.
